Description: Get ready for a week of excitement, creativity, and fun as we dive into the world of Circus Arts! Whether you’re looking to fly through the air on the trapeze or try your hand at juggling, this camp is the perfect place to explore the basics of Circus Arts! Over the week, you’ll discover new skills, build confidence, and make new friends while working with a variety of apparatuses. You’ll experience the thrill of performing, learn how to move with a partner, plus laugh out loud with clowning exercises. All of this will be in a supportive and fun environment—no prior experience is needed! By the end of the week, you’ll be amazed at how much you’ve learned, and who knows? You might even uncover a hidden talent or two. This camp is designed for novice students. You are welcome to sign up for more than one session, but please be aware that the content will be the same for each session.

Please note the enrollment and cancellation policies listed on the front page

Instructor: Sophia Layos-Wagaman

A little about your instructor: Coach Sophia Layos-Wagaman was raised in Fairbanks as a competitive gymnast which led her into Circus Arts at Golden Heart Performing Arts during High School. Sophia attended Circus Smirkus Camp in Vermont, opening her world to additional Circus Arts including straps, lyra, juggling, wire and partner acrobatics. In 2023 she was accepted into San Diego Circus Center where she was recently involved in two shows, Jubilee and Timescape. Sophia is a snowbird now, joining us back in Fairbanks this summer to lead Circus Camps!

Instructor: Heart Arnold

A little about your instructor: Coach Heart Arnold began as a student at Golden Heart Performing Arts in 2018. She has years of experience which have led her into a teaching position. Her favorite apparatus is the Dance Trapeze, a classic Circus apparatus. She brings her love for Aerial Arts to life as she has performed in 2 years of Winter Solstice Soirée, an annual celebration of the return of light. Heart is dedicated to Aerial Arts and wants to pursue her passion for years to come. In her off time you can find her barista-ing and enjoying outside play time with her golden retriever, Maggie.

Instructor: Athena Barber

A little about your instructor: Coach Athena Barber grew up between Fairbanks and California. Her love for rock climbing brought her to the world of Circus Arts in 2021. She is well-trained on a variety of apparatuses which makes picking her favorite a challenge. Her recent love for Aerial Straps has proven to be a difficult, yet rewarding experience. She has two amazing daughters that were also “Bit by the Circus Bug” and continue to push her to new limits. She is enjoying how much confidence she, and her daughters have acquired through the practice of Circus Arts. In her free time, Coach Athena enjoys photo journalism and anything the color, orange!
