Description: Join us as we embark on an exciting exploration of engineering through hands-on projects using a multidisciplinary approach. Students will engage in a variety of design tasks culminating in a final project that integrates each step in the engineering method. In addition, students will learn how to create and use science notebooks, explore the nature of engineering through literature, and use visual arts to create models of their final projects.

Instructor: Wendy Tinkelenberg

A little about your instructor: I believe that the arts can be a conduit to deeper understanding and that core subjects like math and science are not simply lessons we learn but practices that help us navigate and understand our world. Although I received a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University, I soon realized my passion was education. I teach kindergarten with the FNSBSD and recently earned a master's in elementary education from UAF. Last spring, I received an Alaska Space Grant Fellowship, which allowed me to create an engineering unit for my students using the humanities as a springboard to inspire future engineers. I am thrilled to present this STEAM course and can’t wait to start exploring the possibilities!
